KAUAI 2006
We arrived at the airport in Lihue and proceeded to Po’ipu Shores and our condo.
It was a nice condo with a great view. We could see the dolphins and turtles from our deck and the sunsets were magnificent!
On Tuesday, we drove to Nawiliwili Harbor for an early morning deep sea fishing trip.
The fellows each caught a fish. Monty was able to bring in a large 50 lb tuna and the other two fish were 30 lb. Maui Maui, a really good eating fish.
We went home and had fish for dinner that night, but all of us were disappointed that we were only able to keep one fish; we had thought we would be keeping all of them. We now understand that just isn’t the way they handle it over there.
One day we went to The Spouting Horn Point and purchased some pearls. Tom was busy feeding the chickens. How cute to watch.
Then we went on to the Na Pali coast with Kauai Sea Tours for a snorkeling trip to the back side of Kauai on a large catamaran. It was a great trip which we all really enjoyed. Some of the people including Connie went under a water fall from the front of the boat. The landscape back there is really something to see. When we left Port Allen, we saw a school of spinner dolphins. They put on a great show!
We of course drove through the tunnel of trees. It sure seemed to me to be a lot smaller then the last time I was there with Reg, well over twenty years ago.
We drove up to Wailua Falls and bought cold coconuts and had the young man add some rum just for favor. Tom, of course, fed the chickens again.
Some of the beaches we went to were:
Kapa’a Beach, Anahola Beach Park, Lydgate State Park Beach and Baby Beach near Po’ipu.
We went towards Kaumakani to check out the beaches and the Salt Ponds, but didn’t go in the water. I think this is the day that we stopped at the Waimea Plantation for drinks and just a look around. Sure a cute place. This year I checked into their prices, but they seemed way out of line to me, so we decided not to stay there. We also drove through old Koloa town.
We drove up to old Kapa’a and found an Italian open air bar and restaurant. They had a great happy hour. !! The waitress was a neat young woman named December and as it turned out her boyfriend and soon to be father, was the same young fellow that we had purchased cold coconuts from the day before. We went back to this bar a couple of times as we all really enjoyed it. I think happy hour was only a $1.50 for each drink. What a deal!
Couple of things I would like to do on our next trip are the Ancient Hawaiian Ruins in Wailua and the Menhune Fishponds near Nawiliwili Harbor.
We had a great time staying with Tom and Connie in the same duplex. Most of the evenings, we ate dinner at the condo.
I think we went out for dinner twice, once at the Italian bar in Kapa’a and once at a nice restaurant on the way to Kapa’a called the “Bull Shed”.
